Our History of Philanthropy
The Law Office of Snyder & Snyder, P.A. has a well-deserved reputation not only for having some of the finest lawyers in the profession, but also for having some of the most compassionate. Stephen L. Snyder, the firm’s senior partner, takes great pride in giving back to our community and providing residents with much-needed opportunities.
He and the other members of our firm have worked hard to make the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. region a better place for everyone who lives here. Read more about our community involvement below!
Firm Teams Up With Center for Poverty Solutions
In 2003, Mr. Snyder teamed up with the Center for Poverty Solutions, becoming the Matching Gift Challenge Sponsor of the 16th Annual Lawyers’ Campaign Against Hunger. As part of this sponsorship, Mr. Snyder challenged all lawyers across the state to give generously to the campaign. He matched dollar for dollar of all donations made.
This statewide initiative was started by attorneys to give back to their communities. Donations made by Mr. Snyder and his fellow members of the bar provided food and shelter for those in need. He issued a similar match challenge on behalf of the Lawyers’ Campaign for CollegeBound.
Supporting United Cerebral Palsy (UCP)
In May of 2001, Mr. Snyder donated $2.5 million to United Cerebral Palsy (UCP). $2 million of this donation will go to UCP of Central Maryland to help establish a new 57,000-square-foot facility to better serve its community. The additional $500,000 was donated to help UCP chapters throughout the country establish better lines of communication and improve the chapters’ understanding of the legal issues surrounding the disability.
Mr. Snyder Gives Back to His Alma Matter
Also in 2001, Mr. Snyder donated $1 million to his alma mater, the University of Baltimore School of Law. The donation, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of his graduation from the school, established the Stephen L. Snyder Center for Litigation Skills. The Center will focus on teaching law students the fundamentals of trial preparation, an essential component of effective client representation.
The University of Baltimore recently named Mr. Snyder as one of 13 alumni for induction in the University of Baltimore School of Law’s 2003 Legacy for Excellence in Litigation. This award recognizes alumni as members of the inaugural class of this‚ “Hall of Fame” whose life work within the legal community exemplifies noteworthy service and exceptional professional achievement in courtroom advocacy. The University of Baltimore Alumni Association also honored Mr. Snyder with the School of Law’s 2003 Alumnus of the Year Award.
Recipient of the Leadership in Law Award
Mr. Snyder’s philanthropic efforts have been further exemplified by the Daily Record’s designation of Mr. Snyder as one of 24 Marylanders to receive the 2003 Leadership in Law Award. This award was created to recognize the good work and deeds being done by members of the legal community throughout Maryland. Recipients have devoted time and energy to bettering the legal profession and the communities in which they live and work.
Providing Support to the Jewish Community
Along with the aforementioned philanthropies, Mr. Snyder has also been a very active supporter of both the Baltimore and national Jewish communities and the many charitable organizations affiliated with them. Mr. Snyder and his family remain active members and supporters of Baltimore’s Beth El Congregation. He is also a supporter of The Associated. The Associated is a group that provides charitable support to local, national, and international Jewish communities.
Both the Baltimore Zionist District and Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Academy (formerly named‚ P’Tach of Baltimore‚) have recently honored Mr. Snyder in recognition of his support for various Jewish organizations and charities. The Baltimore Zionist District presented Mr. Snyder with their 2002 Humanitarian Award for his many contributions over the years.
Various Other Philanthropic Pursuits
Mr. Snyder is also an annual Presenting Sponsor of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Golf Classic. This tournament raises money to support the care of individuals afflicted with juvenile diabetes.
The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Academy, a nationally renowned group providing special education for children with learning disabilities, chose Mr. Snyder as the recipient of their 2002 Distinguished Leadership Award. This commendation further illustrates the care and concern that Mr. Snyder has for people, both within his community and around the world.
Another noteworthy charitable deed by Mr. Snyder was his generous support given to a Baltimore Catholic Church. Mr. Snyder generously contributed towards the renovation of Our Lady of Pompei.
In a time when successful members of society are appearing in the news for the wrong reasons, Stephen L. Snyder is showing that success comes with responsibility.
