Our team of medical malpractice lawyers recently read about a woman whose daughter developed cerebral palsy as a direct result of unnecessary treatments enacted by her physician. The woman’s daughter also had to have both kidney’s replaced. The poor little girl is 10 years old.
It all began when Marsha Simpson’s doctors performed an amniocentesis for her unborn child–without her consent!
An amniocentesis is an invasive procedure that sticks a needle into the amniotic fluid that protects and nurtures the unborn child. It is normally only used in extreme cases where certain factors indicate a chance of birth defects or other abnormalities (autism, for example).
Simpson’s lawsuit also claims that this doctor failed to note signs of medical complications.
Even more shockingly, Simpson’s next doctor induced labor without her consent. In fact, the doctor induced Ms. Simpson’s labor without even telling her! The doctor then handed the pregnant woman over to a family practitioner.
Expert witnesses in the case agreed that the child–Marissa Simpson–should have been delivered via C-section instead.
The Simpson family has already spent nearly $2 million taking care of their 10 year old daughter. They could end up having to spend $8 million more in the future, expert witnesses in the case said. Currently, Simpson's lawyers are working diligently to fight for what the Simpson's family a compensation they deserve.
